Today's Lesson

Today we'll discuss how to set up a mono in-ear mix on a TouchMix mixer.

  1. Choose an aux mix and make sure to label it. Make sure your mix is set to “pre fader.”
  2. Plug an XLR in the aux output you’ve chosen.
  3. Whether you’re using a headphone preamp or a wireless transmitter, plug the other side of the XLR into the input marked “Left (mono).

    Note

See the manufacturers’ instructions on these units to make sure they are set to receive a mono signal.

  4. Make sure the volume is turned up on your headphone preamp or wireless pack.
  5. Now, let’s get mixing. You can set your in-ear mix on the mixer itself or utilize the remote mixing option, which is super convenient.

When referencing a mono in-ear mix, it is best to include only what you absolutely need in order to perform well. The mono mix listening experience can tend to become one big wall of sound mixed up the center with little distinction between instruments if you add too much content in the mix.
