Sound Advice | Setting up a stage: Connect you PA to power

This quick tip discusses the best practices for connecting a P.A. system to power.

OK. You have your PA and monitors set up on stage. Let’s plug them in!

Well start with the subwoofers and then the top left and right loudspeakers, connecting these components to the closest available power drops.

Now let’s get the monitors plugged in as well, again using the closest available power drops. In an ideal setup, the power has been distributed around the stage efficiently, to accommodate all of the equipment.

We’ll keep the power drops turned off until the stage setup is complete and we begin to turn things on.

Make sure to keep all of your cabling towards the outside of the stage as much as possible to reduce clutter and keep people from stepping on or tripping over them. Once the cables are run, it’s a good idea to tape them down to the stage or performance area.
