The first step to getting a stage setup is to find where the available power outlets are in the room and run power drops to the stage.

You’ll need power available for your main PA loudspeakers and subwoofers. So a drop at or near the front of the stage, possibly two is a good idea.

If your system uses passive loudspeakers, you’ll just need to run power to your amp rack.

You’ll also need to make sure power is available for stage monitors and instruments on stage such as guitar amps, keyboards, etc. Perhaps an electric drum set is being used. All of these things will require power and should be considered at the start of your setup.

Depending on you setup specifically, a few more drops about mid stage may be appropriate. If there is a drummer and or a keyboardist, placing a drop at the back of the stage might be necessary as well.

The goal is be a bit strategic about your power drops to best accommodate your PA and gear on stage.

If you are providing your own mixing console, you should make sure power is available for that as well, whether you’re running it from the stage or you have a dedicated FOH mix position.
