Procedure

Below are steps to take for setting up the TM-30 to work as a DAW interface with a Mac computer.

Please make sure to have a USB cable terminated with USB Type A on one end and USB Type B on the other.  This cable is similar to most common printer cables.

Note

For the sake of these instructions, make sure the TM-30 is disconnect from the computer and that both the computer and TM-30 are powered down. The listed steps are assuming that nothing is connected and powered OFF.

USB Cable:

  1. Insert the TYPE B END of the USB Cable in to the Type B port on the rear of the TM-30.
  2. Insert the TYPE A END of the USB Cable in to the Type A port on the computer

On the TM-30:

  1. Power up the mixer.
  2. Once the mixer boots and the Mixer graphics are visible, press the REC / PLAY soft button on the top panel.
  3. Press RECORD MODE on the lower right side of the LCD screen.
  4. Press MULTITRACK DAW on the right side of the screen.  This will put the mixer in a "mode" so that audio will be made available on the USB Type B port on the rear panel of the mixer.

On the Computer (MAC):

  1.      Power up the computer.
  2.      Once the computer boots, navigate to the SYSTEM PREFERENCES
  3.      Click on SOUNDS
  4.      Click on OUTPUT > Select QSC TM30 Pro
  5. Click on INPUT > Select QSC TM30 Pro. This validates that the mixer is recognized by the computer as an available audio device.

       Note

If at this step the mixer is not listed as an option in the SOUNDS device list, try replacing the USB cable between the mixer and the computer or use a different USB port on the computer.  If the issue remains, contact QSC for further assistance.

  6.      Quit / Close SYSTEM PREFERENCES
  7.      Launch the recording software

At this point, each recording software has different ways to identify and select INPUT / OUTPUT audio devices.  Please reference support materials provided by the software manufacturer for more detailed information on the process for selecting an audio device in the software.

When the recording software is open, navigate to where you can select the mixer as your audio INPUT and OUTPUT source.  This is usually found in a "Preferences" or "Options" location in the recording software.

Setting up Inputs in the software:

Once the TM-30 is selected as an audio input device in the software.  The mixer's inputs (1-32) should map over to the available input options for the audio track(s) in the recording software.

Example: TM-30 Input 1 = Input 1 in the software which can then be selected on any audio track as the source for that track.

Setting up outputs in the software:

Once the TM-30 is selected as an audio output device in the software, the software "Output" count will equal the mixer's audio channel count (1-32).   The software outputs will map over so that Output 1 will route over to the TM-30 Input 1, Output 2 will route over to the TM-30 Input 2, etc...

Note

Software outputs 1 and 2 are sometimes used as the "Main" output or the Main Mix Bus of the recording software.  Depending on the desired routing preferences, it may be required to contact the recording software manufacturer to understand how to change the routing of the Main Mix of the software.

After setting up the output routing in the software, the mixer will need to be set up so that it knows to source the audio from the software instead of the analog inputs.

Enabling the TRACK option for the TM-30 inputs:

  1.      Press the REC / PLAY soft button on the top panel
  2.      Press the TRACK button for each channel that is to receive audio from the recording software.
  3.      Make sure the audio tracks in the software are setup to route audio to the desired inputs of the TM-30.
  4.      Press play on the recording software.

Activity should be visible on the TM-30's input meters when the input channels are set to source the audio from the DAW.

Troubleshooting for audio issues:

  •         If audio appears to sound fast or slow during playback, make sure the sample rate of the mixer matches the sample rate of the recording session.
  •         If the mixer inputs are not available in the recording software, the mixer is not selected as an audio input device on the computer or within the recording software.
  •         If no audio is available for playback on the TM-30, verify that the mixer is selected as an output audio device, that the mixer inputs have the TRACK buttons enabled, and that the software output routing has the correct output selected that corresponds to the TM-30 input in question.
  •          If pops or clicks are audible in the signal during recording or playback,  the hardware buffer settings may need to be increased in the recording software.
