Procedure

Background

There are situations when recorded .wav audio files from the TouchMix mixer to a USB drive may have corrupt or missing header information due to power interruptions to the mixer before the session has been properly stopped and/or saved. The following will provide instructions using a 3rd party software not supplied by QSC for possible file recovery.

There is software that can take the raw .wav files and make them readable. The software application described in this document is Adobe Audition.

Note

The procedure is presuming that Adobe Audition has successfully been downloaded and installed on the computer.

  1. Create a folder/directory to receive the recovered .wav files on the computer.
  2. Launch Adobe Audition.
  3. Go to File > Import > RAW Data…
    1. A file management screen will open.
  4. Select the file to be recovered. The dialog box shown below appears.
    1. Select the sample rate that was used to record the file.
    2. Other settings as shown below.

  1. Audition recovers the file. Depending on file size, this can take a while. The waveform will be displayed and the file will be playable in Audition.
  2. Once Audition renders the file, go to File > Export > File…
    1. Browse to the folder/directory you created at the beginning of this process.
    2. Check the file name. Audition should append an incremented number (02, 03, etc.) to the file name. Be sure that the file name is something that will help you keep track of the tracks.

  1. Click OK.

Below is a screenshot of a directory (folder) after 8 files have been recovered. In this example, the .wav files were placed on the root directory of the drive that was used for the original recording. These files can now be imported into a DAW or made into a TouchMix session using the TouchMix DAW Utility.
