Troubleshooting | K.2 Speaker Displaying Firmware 9.1.1.x

Learn how to diagnose and solve any technical issues with K.2 Speaker running firmware 9.1.1.x.

Updated at May 10th, 2023

Affected Products

Hardware Model/Series

K8.2, K10.2, K12.2

Software

1.3.3, 1.3.3, 1.4.1

Problem

The speaker displays a firmware build of 9.1.1.x prior to performing an update or immediately after performing a firmware update to 1.3.3 (K8.2 & K10.2) or 1.4.1 (K12.2).

Causes

The 9.1.1.x is a temporary stage that happens during the normal firmware update.  When a unit is updated, it runs through two cycles, and if it is interrupted before completing the second cycle, it can get stuck in 9.1.1.x.

Note:

The speaker will operate normally apart from being able to retain USER presets.  Any USER presets saved while the speaker is operating with firmware 9.1.1.x will be lost when the speaker is powered off.

Solution | Workaround

The issue can be corrected by updating the firmware using the K.2 Firmware updater. Steps are outlined below.

Associated Firmware builds:

Model Firmware
K8.2 1.3.3
K10.2 1.3.3
K12.2 1.4.1

Order of operation (assuming the updater 2.1.3 is downloaded and installed):

  1. Make sure the speaker is powered off.
  2. Remove the knob on the back of the speaker to expose the micro USB connector.
  3. Connect the USB cable from the computer to the speaker. Preferable USB-A to Micro-USB.
  4. Open the K.2 Firmware Updater (2.1.3).
  5. Power on the speaker.
  6. Once powered on, the Updater will show the model, serial number, and loaded firmware.
  7. Click update to start.

Note:

The update happens in 4 distinct steps. Each step happens automatically after the previous step is complete.

  • Transfers firmware (takes about 2-4 minutes)
  • Reboots speaker (takes about 1 minute)
  • Loads firmware (takes about 2-4 minutes)
  • Reboots speaker (takes about 1 minute)

  1. Power off the speaker once all 4 steps are complete.
  2. Remove the Micro USB cable from the speaker and re-attach the encoder knob cover.
  3. Power on the speaker and verify firmware (K8.2 and K10.2 = 1.3.3 / K12,2 = 1.4.1).
